Xtina Jewell: Ain't No Supermodel
What inspires your music?
I’m usually inspired by stories - I’ll get a cue from a film I’m watching, or have an experience that I want to preserve. Sonically I’m most inspired by classic rock, jazz, EDM, lofi pop, experimental/dream pop.
How did you start your recording career?
I met a lot of great people through an app called Vampr. I met my producer that I’m working with right now, James LaFlamme, he reached out to me through the app and we made “Ain’t No Supermodel” shortly after that!
What is your (EP/Single) called? How did you come up with it?
I wrote the single “Ain’t No Supermodel” with my production manager/bf Jesse Fogel - it happened very quick - he wrote the chord progression and I had been working on the hook already. The song is an anti-ageism anthem. When I was modelling I had been hearing this phrase a lot: “You’re pretty... how old are you?” I would say 24 and see this look of disappointment pass over their faces like it was a damn shame. And then general disadvantages that come from being a “nobody” trying to get into the music industry... let out the frustration in the song for sure.
What is your genre of music?
My genre has been alternative pop/edm so far. I’d like to get more experimental with my music in the future!
Who are your influences?
I listen heavily to Fleetwood Mac, Lana Del Rey, Rosalia, Ariana Grande, Tove Lo, Ella Fitzgerald.
How do you describe success?
Success is being confident in your abilities and being proud of the work you’ve done. It’s a feeling of being at peace with your destiny.
What can we expect from you in 2020?
In 2020 I have another track produced by James LaFlamme coming out soon it’s called “Angel.” You can find a teaser of that on my website! There are about 3 other songs I’m prepping to drop this year too... I’m excited!
